The chief prosecutor of Brazil, Paulo Gustavo Gonet Branco has charged former Brazillian president Bolsonaro Jair and his vice Walter Braga Netto of an alleged attempted coup plot after his loss in the 2022 general elections
According to media reports, the chief Prosecutor revealed that the 69 years old former president’s coup plot was to prevent president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from taking office with the intentions to poison her.
Reports have further indicated that Bolsonaro Jair and Braga Netto led the group which included some military personnel during the alleged coup attempt. “Allied with other individuals, including civilians and military personnel, they attempted to prevent, in a co-ordinated manner, the result of the 2022 presidential elections from being fulfilled” it stated.
Significantly, Jair have denied these allegations with claims of being a victim of “political witch hunt”
It is now the duty of the Brazillian Supreme court presided over by Justice Alexandre de Moraes to determine whether to proceed with a trial or drop all charges levelled by the prosecutor based on evidence provided.
