Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that every District Assembly in Ghana will receive at least GH¢25 million in 2025 as part of a government initiative to promote local economic growth and enhance decentralisation.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, June 3, Dr. Forson said the funding is a key element of the government’s broader strategy to empower local governance and ensure national resources are equitably distributed.

“The government is committing approximately GH¢6.1 billion out of the GH¢7.57 billion allocated for 2025 directly to local assemblies to stimulate economic activity at the district level,” he stated.

Dr. Forson added that the government’s approach goes beyond the disbursement of funds. “We are taking firm measures to ensure these resources align with our broader economic goals,” he said.

The announcement follows strong criticism from the Minority in Parliament, who have accused the Finance Minister of intentionally withholding funds from essential state institutions, despite legal obligations and available resources, nearly six months into the current administration.

This latest initiative forms part of the Mahama administration’s push to rebuild the economy from the grassroots, focusing on inclusive growth and stronger local governance.
