Ghana Gold Board Begins Enforcement of Mandatory Receipt Use in Gold Trade.

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the nationwide enforcement of its directive requiring all licensed gold buyers to issue official GoldBod receipts for every transaction, following several postponements and grace periods granted to traders to regularise their operations.

In a statement released on Monday, August 18, GoldBod emphasized that the directive applies to all licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers. The move, according to the Board, is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and integrity within Ghana’s gold trade.

“The issuance of GoldBod receipts is now a compulsory requirement for the validity of all gold transactions,” the statement read.

To ensure compliance, the Board has deployed its Taskforce and Field Inspectors nationwide. Licensed buyers are required to present their receipt booklets for inspection and cooperate fully with enforcement teams.

GoldBod further urged licensed small-scale miners and gold traders to demand GoldBod receipts for every purchase transaction they undertake with authorized buyers.

The Board cautioned that failure to issue receipts constitutes a serious offence and could result in severe sanctions, including suspension or revocation of licenses.

GoldBod commended stakeholders for their cooperation so far and called for collective efforts in sanitizing Ghana’s gold sector.

“Together, we can strengthen the sector for the benefit of all stakeholders,” said Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer of GoldBod.

The enforcement marks a major step in formalizing Ghana’s gold trade and ensuring that transactions are properly documented, thereby curbing illicit practices and enhancing accountability in the sector.
