Government To Introduce Ghana Medical Trust Fund In Coming Weeks.

President John Dramani Mahama has outlined government’s plan to introduce Ghana Medical Trust Fund which could be referred to as Mahama Care in the coming weeks.

In his address to parliament yesterday, the president said the MahamaCare initiative will be designed to help fund the treatment of non communicable diseases in the country.

In essence, the MahamaCare fund will provide financial aid to patients on dialysis treatment, cancer care and some other non communicable diseases. His concern comes admist the rising cost of dialysis and other forms of medication for non communicable diseases in the country.

The MahamaCare fund which will be sidelined with government’s new Free Primary Healthcare Programme invention which is intended to transform Ghana’s health care system thereby providing easy and quality access to health care services without financial constraints.

The Free Primary Healthcare Programme which will be integrated into Ghana’s health care system will particularly be focused on prevention, early detection, and treatment of diseases.

The president reiterated that eventhough the MahamaCare fund will be intiated by the government,
there would be collaboration with partners from the private sectors to ensure sustainability of the fund.
