Gov’t Absorbs Savannah College of Education.

The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Tertiary Education Comission (GTEC) has absorbed the Savannah College of Education into a fully operational public College.

In a press statement from the Ministry of Education, the once private institution have fulfilled all requirements, through series of reviews for its transition into a public College of Education.

It further indicated that the absorption of the College is expected to enhance quality training by providing state-funded infrastructure, professional development for faculty, and curriculum improvements.

Additionally, this move will provide an avenue for teacher education enabling more students pursue teaching careers as well as promoting equity by bridging the gap to providing more access to teacher training education in underserved areas as in developed areas.

In appreciation, the Ministry of Education has commended GTEC, Traditional
Authorities, and the Management of Savannah College of Education for their instrumental roles in
facilitating this smooth transition.

“This development aligns with Ghana’s broader educational reform agenda,
which focuses on developing a highly skilled and competent workforce of educators to drive national development”. the release indicated.

It urged the students and stakeholders of the college to embrace the transition and to henceforth acknowledge the institution as a public College of education.
