In a major push to enhance learning outcomes at the foundational level, the Ministry of Education is set to roll out an expanded set of interventions under the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP), backed by an additional $117.1 million in funding.

The new financial support—secured under the second phase of GALOP’s Additional Financing (AF2)—aims to deepen efforts in key areas such as teacher professional development, school grants, and performance-based incentives, targeting underperforming basic schools nationwide.

This renewed commitment was outlined at the inaugural meeting of the GALOP Project Oversight Committee on Tuesday, July 15. The committee, chaired by Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu, reiterated the need for strategic direction, transparency, and strong oversight to ensure impactful deployment of the resources.

In remarks delivered on the Minister’s behalf, he stressed that the project’s success would hinge on its ability to respond effectively to real-time challenges in the education sector.

“We must ensure that every intervention—from teacher training to school improvement grants—is not only implemented but also closely monitored for results. The value of this funding lies in how well we can translate it into tangible learning gains,” he said.

The funding, provided by partners including the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), is expected to benefit thousands of schools, especially in disadvantaged areas.

The high-level meeting brought together stakeholders such as development partners, heads of implementing agencies, and members of the oversight committee, all of whom pledged their commitment to strengthening accountability and impact across Ghana’s basic education landscape.

With this funding, the Ministry hopes to accelerate efforts to close learning gaps, improve teacher effectiveness, and provide a more equitable educational experience for every Ghanaian child.
