The Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Adwoa Nyarko, a hairstylist, to five years in prison for her involvement in a GH¢139,000 recruitment scam. Nyarko was convicted on four counts, including conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretenses.

Her accomplices, identified as Nana Osei and Charles Kwame Damoah, remain at large.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackon, who prosecuted the case, Nyarko resides in Wenchi. In September 2021, the victims of the scam, Nana Yaw Barimah and Collins Atta Oteng, reported the incident to the police after being defrauded.

The prosecution revealed that in 2020, Nyarko and her accomplices collected GH¢39,000 from the victims, promising to secure employment for their relatives at the Ghana Revenue Authority. However, the promised jobs never materialized.

Following an investigation, Nyarko was arrested in Asankare, Ashanti Region. During interrogation, she admitted to receiving money from the victims but claimed to have passed the funds to her accomplices, Osei and Damoah.

The police are continuing efforts to apprehend the two accomplices, who remain on the run, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
