The Ghanaian boxing fraternity has been thrown into deep mourning following the sudden death of Ernest Akushey, popularly known in the ring as Bahubali.
The 32-year-old boxer reportedly passed away around 2:00 am today, barely two weeks after sustaining heavy punches during a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
A heartbreaking video circulating online shows Bahubali’s lifeless body lying in an ambulance while his devastated mother wailed and desperately tried to wake him by beating his chest. The emotional footage has left many fans and sympathizers in tears.
Born and raised in Chorkor, a fishing community in Accra, Bahubali was admired for his explosive fighting style and fierce competitiveness in the ring. His energy and determination made him a fan favorite among boxing lovers, especially in Bukom, the heart of Ghana’s boxing tradition.
Though the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed, reports suggest that the boxer may have passed away after a brief illness. His untimely demise comes as a huge blow to the local boxing community, which has produced some of Ghana’s greatest fighters.
Tributes have already begun pouring in from fellow boxers, trainers, and fans who described Bahubali as a warrior who gave his all in the ring.
As the nation mourns his tragic passing, many are calling for greater attention to the safety and health of boxers both during and after competitive fights.
Bahubali’s death leaves behind not only grieving family and friends but also an entire sports fraternity shaken by the loss of yet another young talent.
