Ghanaian Disc Jockey and entertainment critic, DJ Slim, has publicly voiced his concerns ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), stating that he would be disappointed if rapper King Paluta is crowned Artiste of the Year.
In a passionate post shared on his official Facebook page, DJ Slim threw his weight behind Stonebwoy and King Promise, whom he believes are more deserving of the coveted title. According to him, these two artistes have not only shown genuine interest in the TGMA scheme but have also had an impactful year marked by consistency, hit songs, and international recognition.
While DJ Slim refrained from mentioning King Paluta directly in his post, he subtly hinted at his reservations by expressing his disappointment in the possibility of any nominee besides Stonebwoy or King Promise taking home the top award. “It would be disappointing to see the award go to someone who hasn’t shown much interest in the scheme,” he stated.
DJ Slim emphasized that industry players must consider not only the popularity of songs but also the artiste’s engagement with the industry and the TGMA process. “Recognition should go beyond just hit songs. It should reflect an artiste’s full commitment to the growth and image of the industry,” he added.
King Paluta, who has had a remarkable year with his hit single “Yahitte” and growing fanbase, remains a strong contender in the Artiste of the Year category. However, DJ Slim’s comments add a layer of controversy to what is already shaping up to be a hotly contested race.
The TGMA, formerly known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), is Ghana’s premier music awards scheme and continues to spark conversations each year about transparency, influence, and the true measure of artistic merit.
As the awards night approaches, all eyes will be on the organizers and how they weigh impact, influence, and industry engagement in their final decision.
