Importers and Exporters Group Asks Goldbod to Keep Supporting the Cedi.

By: Kenneth Appiah Bani

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana is encouraging the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod) to continue working hard to help the Ghanaian cedi stay strong against the US dollar and other major world currencies.

This message was shared during a visit by the association to Goldbod’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi. The visit was also meant to congratulate him on his recent appointment as the new CEO. During the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the association, Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, said Mr. Gyamfi’s appointment is well deserved because of his deep knowledge, experience, and strong leadership in the industry.

Mr. Awingobit said that the falling value of the cedi has been a big challenge for importers and exporters in the country. When the cedi is weak, the cost of bringing goods into the country goes up, and this affects prices and business operations. He believes that Goldbod, under Mr. Gyamfi’s leadership, can help reduce this problem by continuing to use gold as a way to strengthen the local currency.

He also said the association is ready to support Goldbod and work together to find new ways to protect the economy and support businesses, especially in the trading sector.

In his reply, Mr. Gyamfi thanked the association for their visit and their encouraging words. He said Goldbod is fully committed to helping improve the value of the cedi through smart policies and gold-based financial programs. According to him, Goldbod’s current strategies including trading gold to increase Ghana’s reserves and reduce the demand for foreign currency are already showing positive results.

He added that the appreciation of the cedi is not only important for business owners but also for the entire economy. A stronger cedi means lower inflation, more investor confidence, and better living conditions for Ghanaians.

Mr. Gyamfi also welcomed the idea of more collaboration with stakeholders like the Importers and Exporters Association. He said Goldbod will continue to engage with partners to develop long-term solutions that will keep the economy stable and support national development.

The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to maintain open communication and to support each other’s efforts in building a stronger economy for Ghana.
