Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Accra on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening the long-standing relations between Ghana and India.

He was warmly received at the Kotoka International Airport by his host, President John Dramani Mahama, along with senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and a vibrant cultural troupe that welcomed the delegation with traditional Ghanaian music and dance. Also present at the airport was the Indian community in Ghana, who came out in large numbers waving flags and cheering in celebration.

As part of the visit, President John Dramani Mahama has decorated Prime Minister Modi with Ghana’s highest national honour, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, during a ceremony held at the Presidency in Accra. The honour was conferred in recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Prime Minister Modi expressed his profound gratitude, stating that the award was a matter of great pride and honour for him.

President Mahama also hosted a State Dinner in honour of the visiting Indian leader at the Presidential Villa in Accra. The event brought together high-ranking government officials, diplomats, and members of the business community to celebrate the growing ties between the two countries.

This historic visit is the first by an Indian Prime Minister in several decades and reflects India’s renewed commitment to enhancing partnerships with African nations.
