As part of promoting the worldly recognized Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M) education in Ghanaian education system, a phd graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Benjamin Ansah has built a three wheeled smart cycle car.
This initiative was part of a Dr. Benjamin Ansah’s project themed “STEAM in Ghanaian Higher Education: Modelling STEAM-Related Competencies of Students Through Cycle Car Technology.”
The phd graduate described the invention as a conceptual movement aimed at advancing interdisciplinary education in Ghana.
He further highlighted that the vehicle reflects the core principles of STEAM by merging elements from various fields, including mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as the Arts.
According to Dr. Ansah, the design inspiration for the car came from two animals: the eagle, featured in the KNUST logo, and the kingfisher bird.
He explains that the eagle’s eyes influenced the shape of the car’s headlights, while the kingfisher bird’s moderate call inspired the car’s sound production when in operation.
Project supervisor Dr. Kwesi Agyeman has described the project as exceptional, “there are more innate abilities in students more than the structured curriculum we use in teaching them”. He laid emphasis on providing students with such opportunities in order to bring forth their capabilities.
