Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has reaffirmed the Mahama government’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament today, Dr. Forson emphasized that the government has no intention of canceling the policy, which was originally introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration.

“My party’s position on Free SHS has been well articulated by H.E President [John Dramani Mahama]. We do not intend to cancel the Free SHS. President Mahama has said the Free SHS has come to stay,” Dr. Forson said.

He added that the President’s statement should provide assurance that the policy will be preserved and strengthened for the benefit of students across the country.

Dr. Forson’s statement is in line with President Mahama’s promise during his 2024 campaign to build upon and enhance the Free SHS policy.
