President John Dramani Mahama has tasked the National Investigative Bureau (NIB) to look into a little over 81,000 ghost names on the National Service Authority’s payroll under the previous government.
The ghost names were identified during a recent headcount conducted by the ministry of finance as a move to disburse arrears owed National Service personnel since August 2024.
“The Ministry of Finance has upon the completion of the head count, released an amount of GHS
226,019,224 covering allowance payment arrears for 98,145 actual National Service Personnel. This figure is 81,885 less than the 180,030 names presented by the previous management of the
Authority for allowance payment in 2024.” A release signed by the spokesperson to the president, Felix Ofosu Kwakye had clarified.
In conclusion, the presidenct has tasked the current National Service Authority to adopt reforms that would eradicate ghost names phenomenons in his administration.
