President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana following a productive official visit to the People’s Republic of China, where he held high-level bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping aimed at deepening economic cooperation and strategic partnerships between the two nations.
During the discussions, China confirmed an additional grant of 200 million RMB to Ghana, complementing an earlier 200 million RMB grant. The funds will support the construction of the proposed Aflao Market and the renovation of the National Theatre in Accra.
President Mahama described the Aflao Market project as a vital trading hub that will strengthen economic ties between Ghana and Togo, aligning with his government’s #ResettingGhana Agenda to promote regional trade and infrastructure development.
He further disclosed that Ghana is working with China to finalise the Zero Tariff Policy by the end of October, a move expected to enhance trade and open new opportunities for Ghanaian exporters.
In addition, both leaders explored avenues for sustainable and licensed small-scale mining, underscoring the need for responsible environmental practices and mutual investment opportunities.
President Mahama also highlighted China’s strong interest in Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy initiative and Green Transition policy, with Chinese partners expressing readiness to collaborate with the government and the private sector on these transformative agendas.
Reaffirming Ghana’s longstanding diplomatic ties, President Mahama assured President Xi of Ghana’s continued commitment to the One China Policy and its cooperation in advancing a new Global System of Governance championed by the Chinese leader.
The visit marks another milestone in Ghana-China relations, paving the way for stronger trade, investment, and cultural exchange between the two countries.
