President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that he is set to renovate the John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library built in honor of the late Ghanaian president.
The Library which was established in 2016 was left in disrepair after subsequent years since president Mahama left office.
During a ceremony held yesterday, July 24 marking 13 years since his demise sister to the late president, Mercy Araba Quarshie addressing the gathering of sympathizers appealed to the government to help renovate and operationalize the library which was built to honour the death of his brother.
“One thing that we would also like to draw our president’s attention to is the library that was built in honour of the late Professor Mills almost 10 years ago in Cape Coast,… we know that, as we have asked, something will happen.” she appealed.
President Mahama, taking his turn to sympathise with the family and the state in general promised to refurbish the John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library.
The president highlighted the fact that the library has been fully operational in 2016 under the care of Kofi Totobi Quakyi until it was handed over to the University of Cape Coast when his administration left power.
Since then, the facility was left into disrepair.
“I can tell you that Kofi Totobi and a small group are already working on bringing that memorial library back to the shape in which it should be, and we can be sure that we will let it achieve the objective for which it was set up,” Mahama assured.
The John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library was inaugurated in 2016 in honour of the late president dedicated towards research, education and tourism. Unfortunately, years after this monument was built, it has been neglected causing most of its facilities to wear away or destroy.
