Mensa Otabil Warns Youth Against Political Vigilantism for Paltry Sums

Pastor Mensa Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), has issued a strong warning to the youth, advising them against participating in political vigilantism, commonly referred to as the “foot soldier business.”

In a recent sermon to his congregation, Pastor Otabil highlighted the troubling trend of young people being exploited by politicians to engage in violent activities during elections. These youths, he noted, are often paid a meager GH¢20 to carry out these dangerous tasks.

“Don’t beat and kill for politicians for GH¢20. It’s not worth it,” Pastor Otabil cautioned, urging the youth to recognize the inherent risks and the insignificance of the financial rewards associated with such activities.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing one’s life and future over the temporary gains offered by political vigilantism, warning that the consequences of such actions can be far-reaching.

Pastor Otabil’s remarks come at a time of increasing concern over political violence and vigilantism in Ghana. The country has witnessed numerous violent clashes between rival political groups, resulting in injuries and, in some cases, fatalities.

By addressing this critical issue, Pastor Otabil hopes to dissuade the youth from engaging in acts of violence, encouraging them instead to focus on building a more secure and prosperous future.
