Menstrual Hygiene talks have seen increased stigmatization due to the social conception of the natural phenomenon as ‘filthy or dirt talk’

Every girl child between the ages of 10 and 15 are likely to start their menstrual cycle and end at menopause between ages 45 and 50. Menstrual period flows occurs 7 consecutive days (at most) every month where females discharge redish fluids amidst period cramps.

It is sometimes puzzling to see various changes in the color of some of the discharges during the flow.

Well, here are the meanings to the changes in the color of discharges women see during their periods.

  1. Red colored discharge: healthy normal flow
  2. Pink coloured discharge: possible signs of anaemia or period blood mixed with cervical fluid.
  3. Orange colored discharge: possible signs of infection.
  4. Grey colored discharge: bacteria infection or sexually transmitted infection.
  5. Dark red or brown colored discharge: Most common at the beginning or end of menstrual period.

It is important that every female maintains proper hygiene especially during menstrual period to ensure a healthy living condition.
