The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on Monday paid an unannounced visit to the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon, as first-year students officially reported to school to begin the new academic year.

During his surprise visit, the Minister interacted with newly admitted students, offering words of encouragement and emphasizing the importance of discipline, hard work, and excellence values that have defined PRESEC’s outstanding academic reputation over the years.

Hon. Iddrisu commended the school’s management and teaching staff for their continued commitment to quality education and holistic student development. He also used the opportunity to inspect the school’s facilities and assess preparations for the new academic term.

In his remarks, the Minister highlighted concerns regarding the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), calling for a comprehensive review of the system. According to him, the current placement process does not fully serve the national interest and needs to be refined to ensure greater fairness, transparency, and efficiency.

“The CSSPS has served Ghana for years, but it is time for us to review and improve it to ensure that every student gets a fair opportunity based on merit and choice,” Hon. Iddrisu stated.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector by addressing systemic challenges, improving infrastructure, and ensuring equitable access to quality education for all Ghanaian students.

The visit was warmly received by the school’s administration, who expressed appreciation for the Minister’s gesture and assured him of their continued dedication to academic excellence and national development.

PRESEC-Legon remains one of Ghana’s top-performing secondary schools, renowned for its consistent record in national and international academic competitions.
