The Ministry of Education has commenced a mid-year review session with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to evaluate progress and chart the way forward for Ghana’s education sector.

The review, which began on Monday, August 5, 2025, is scheduled to run until Friday, August 8. It is being led by the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and brings together key agencies under the Ministry, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), National Teaching Council (NTC), Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Ghana Library Authority, among others.

Each agency is expected to brief the Committee on their achievements so far, ongoing projects, and the challenges they face. The exercise is designed to provide a comprehensive update on developments from the kindergarten level through to higher education.

In his remarks, Hon. Iddrisu reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to broadening access, enhancing quality, and fostering innovation across all levels of education. The Deputy Minister, Dr. Clement Apaak, also contributed to the session by responding to questions from Members of Parliament, helping to clarify policies and strategies currently being implemented.

The week-long exercise is intended to provide the Select Committee with timely insights that will inform legislative oversight, policy formulation, and budgetary support for the education sector.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the review, Hon. Iddrisu visited Oyoko Methodist Senior High School to assess the aftermath of a fire outbreak that occurred on Sunday night. The fire, which affected parts of the school, prompted an urgent visit by the Minister to inspect the damage. He assured the school’s management and students of immediate intervention and support from the Ministry to restore normalcy.

The Ministry’s proactive approach underscores its dedication to safeguarding learning environments and supporting educational institutions in times of crisis.
