The Minority in Parliament has accused the Minister of Finance and the Accountant General of unlawfully withdrawing ₵1.4 billion from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), a move they describe as a blatant disregard for financial accountability and transparency.
According to the Minority, this latest withdrawal follows an earlier unauthorized transaction involving ₵11.3 million, raising concerns over the consistent diversion of funds meant to support local governance and development projects across the country.
Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take swift action to recover the misappropriated funds and hold those responsible accountable. He emphasized that the Common Fund is a critical source of financing for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), and any interference undermines their ability to deliver essential services to citizens.
“The President must act decisively before Tuesday to ensure these funds are recovered and the integrity of the fund restored,” Annoh-Dompreh stated.
The Minority has also hinted at possible parliamentary action should the government fail to respond promptly, signaling growing tensions over financial management and accountability within the public sector.
