The National Identification Authority has cautioned the general public to resist any attempt by financial institutions to photocopy their National Identification cards.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday June 18, Head of corporate affairs at the NIA, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas has served a strict caution to financial institutions, especially banks to halt Photocopying customers ID cards and adapt to the NIA’s biometrics verification system.
During his delivery, he mentioned that some institutions verify customers physically by verifying if the image on the card resembles the customer and passes them through. Notably, Mr. Darlas has announced that the aforementioned practice is inappropriate and will likely lead to flooding of fraudsters on the system.
Additionally, the NIA has announced that over 822,000 Ghana Cards remain uncollected at the various NIA registration centers nationwide.
“Out of the 18 million plus registrations that we have done, we have 822,440 uncollected cards. Cards that have been printed, but the applicants have yet to pick them up.” He revealed.
“I am appealing to Ghanaians that if you have registered, and you are yet to pick up your card from our various offices across the country, do not hesitate to go there” Mr. Darlas appealed.
The National Identification Card referred to as the Ghana card remains a significant document every Ghanaian who is 15 years and above should wield. The NIA encourages individuals without the card to register for one and those who have already registered to go pick them up at their various registration centers.
