The North Eastern University (NEU) in Gombe, Nigeria has named its ultra mordern multimedia facility after Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The name was bestowed on the ultra mordern facility during an international conference centered on the theme ‘Investigative Journalism Trends in Northern Nigeria”.

Media reports have indicated that that facility has been fully furnished with “advanced audio and video production zones with professional equipment, graphics, animation, and photography sections with high-performance computers, DSLR setups, live streaming and virtual reality labs for immersive content creation.”

Additionally, the facility has been provided with “motion graphics tools and motion capture technology for digital storytelling with robust storage and backup solutions, ergonomic workspaces, and top-notch equipments which intends to make the newly inaugurated Anas Aremeyaw Anas multimedia studio a stepping stone for multimedia excellence in Gombe, Nigeria.

In light of this, the Investigative Journalist encouraged for more student participation and interest in fearless journalism in the near future. “I hope to see, in the coming years, courageous journalists whose work will stand the test of time and shine a light on corruption in our society” he stated.

He further emphasized on the need to practice Journalism in the interest of the society. “There is no point in doing journalism if it does not benefit society. Our investigative journalism should be tailored toward uplifting communities and fostering development. If we fail to do this, then we have failed as journalists.” he addressed.

Despite the call, Anas Aremeyaw Anas counseled students on the flip side of practicing investigative Journalism. He advised students willing to venture into the field to emotionally prepared. Synonymously, he described the investigative Journalism field as “a heated kitchen” thereby those without the “energy to stand its heat” should stray from it.

“I have closely followed Anas’ exceptional work, and I knew that naming this studio after him would mark the beginning of great things to come” founder of NEU, Dr. Sani Jauro revealed, whilst hinting on the reason for the conferment.

This international conference was organised by WikkiTimes, NEU, and the Tiger Eye Foundation Ghana. Anas Aremeyaw Anas gained international recognition through releasing documentaries and exposés centered on Anti corruption and human right issues.
