Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Sam Nartey George, has strongly refuted claims made by a self-styled Igbo king in Ghana who recently declared he had acquired vast lands in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency to establish a kingdom.
In a bold and direct statement shared on social media, the MP emphasized that “no ‘king’ has any kingdom or land in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.” According to him, while the people of Great Ningo are known for their hospitality and openness to all visitors, that goodwill should not be mistaken for weakness or an invitation for foreign entities to lay ancestral claims to any part of their land.
“The ancient Great Ningo kingdom is welcoming to all who visit us, but none is welcome to lay claim to a kingdom here,” he stated.
This comes in reaction to circulating reports that a Nigerian national and self-acclaimed Igbo king, Chukwudi Ihenetu, intends to establish an “Igbo Kingdom” on Ghanaian soil, particularly in the Ningo-Prampram area. He reportedly claimed to have secured a large tract of land to support this ambition and hopes to be recognized as the Eze Igbo of Ghana.

The claim has sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms, with many Ghanaians openly criticizing the move. A segment of the population has called it disrespectful and a blatant overstep of cultural and national boundaries. The controversy has also led to rising online chants such as “Igbo must go” and “Nigeria must go”, signaling growing frustration and concern among locals.
Sam George concluded his message with a call for peace and understanding, urging the public to remain calm and respect the laws and traditions of the land.
“Rest assured, we are a hospitable people but our hospitality CANNOT be taken for granted. Let calm prevail,” he said, signing off with a symbolic lion emoji 🦁 and the Ghana flag .
This incident has once again brought issues of land ownership, chieftaincy recognition, and foreign influence into public discourse, raising important questions about sovereignty, cultural respect, and legal jurisdiction. Authorities in Ningo-Prampram and national security circles are expected to address the matter as tensions continue to rise.
