The New Patriotic Party has called on President John Dramani Mahama to prohibit the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi from executing his role as acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) due to his recent dollar saga.

In a press conference held by the NPP yesterday, National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye made this appeal to the president due to issues surrounding Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar saga.

This call was initiated due to a viral video spotted across various social media platforms of the NDC communication’s officer handing over an undisclosed amount of dollar notes to Evangelist Patricia Oduro Oduro porpularly referred to as “Agraada” whilst seated in his car.

The video has since Saturday, May 10 sparked numerous controversies within the various sectors of the media. Despite Sammy Gyamfi’s apology, various factions of politicians are of the view that the politician has flouted the recently launched code of ethics and must bear its consequences.

Mr. Boakye during the conference elaborated that Sammy Gyamfi’s act breaches Section 1.2 of the code of conduct which mandates government appointees to manage their personal affairs in a highest level of public scrutiny and uphold their integrity and reputation.

He added that Mr. Gyamfi’s public display of foreign currency shows his lack of confidence in the Ghanaian cedi.

Mr. Boakye called for the interdiction of Sammy Gyamfi and accordingly the commencement of investigations into the issue for accountability sake. “We also call on the President to immediately interdict Mr Sammy Gyamfi as acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board , at least, he should interdict him pending the conduct of the investigation by the criminal investigation authorities of the state” he said.

He consequently likened Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar saga to former sanitation minister, Cecelia Daapah’s corruption allegations saga. He mentioned that during former president Nana Akufo-Addo’s governance, Cecelia Daapah was compelled to resign in order for investigations to be conducted despite her social standing.

“We cannot but remember when huge sums of money were reported to have been stolen from the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah, a woman who had worked in high places for over forty years before the incident, an MP since 2001, a deputy minister and a minister, married to a well-known, wealthy architect and consultant with nearly sixty years experience” he stated.

The NPP are seeking that same measures be matted Sammy Gyamfi for breaching the code of conduct.
