NPP Flagbearer Race: Party Deletes Cynthia Morrison and 262 Supporters from Delegates Album Ahead of Presidential Primaries.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a controversial administrative decision ahead of its upcoming presidential primaries, reportedly removing former Agona West Member of Parliament, Cynthia Morrison, along with 262 individuals believed to be her supporters, from the party’s official delegates’ album.
The development has generated intense debate within political circles, as it comes at a critical time when the ruling party is preparing to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. The affected individuals are said to have been part of the party’s expanded electoral college, whose names and details are captured in the delegates’ register used for voting during internal elections.

According to party sources, the deletion followed an internal verification and validation exercise aimed at sanitising the delegates’ list to ensure compliance with the NPP’s constitution and membership requirements. However, critics argue that the timing of the action raises questions about fairness, transparency, and internal democracy within the party.

Cynthia Morrison, who lost her parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections, has in recent months been linked to internal party realignments and growing grassroots mobilisation. Her reported removal, alongside hundreds of others, has therefore fueled speculation that the move may have political undertones tied to the ongoing flagbearer contest.

Some party insiders maintain that the exercise is purely procedural and not targeted at any individual or faction, stressing that similar clean-up processes have occurred in the past to correct anomalies in party records. Others, however, fear the decision could deepen divisions within the NPP and alienate key supporters at a time when unity is crucial.

As the January presidential primaries draw closer, calls are growing for the party’s leadership to provide clarity on the criteria used for the deletions and to address concerns raised by affected members. Political observers warn that unresolved disputes over the delegates’ register could overshadow the primaries and potentially affect the party’s cohesion going into future elections.

For now, the NPP leadership has yet to issue an official detailed statement on the matter, but the issue is expected to feature prominently in internal discussions in the days ahead.
