Ofori-Atta No Longer Wanted by Special Prosecutor.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is no longer on its wanted list.

On February 12, 2025, the Special Prosecutor declared Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person and a fugitive from justice after he failed to provide a reasonable timeline for his return to Ghana. This came despite being informed that he was a suspect in several corruption-related cases and was required to appear before the OSP in Accra on a specific date for questioning.

However, on February 18, 2025, Mr. Ofori-Atta, through his legal representatives, communicated a definite date for his voluntary return to Ghana. This marked a significant change from his earlier stance of staying outside the country indefinitely.

Following this communication, the OSP deemed his stated return date reasonable and agreed to his request. Consequently, the Special Prosecutor rescheduled his appearance to align with his declared date of return.

As a result, the OSP has officially removed Mr. Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons and no longer considers him a fugitive from justice, pending his voluntary return to Ghana as stated.

However, the OSP cautioned that if Mr. Ofori-Atta fails to return on the specified date or does not attend the rescheduled meeting, he will be reinstated on the wanted list. The OSP emphasized that all necessary legal actions would then be taken to ensure his return and compliance.

“The OSP is committed to its mandate of ensuring accountability guided by due process and fairness,” the OSP stated on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, February 18.
