Members of Parliament are reconvening today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. This meeting marks the final parliamentary session for the year.

A major highlight of the session will be the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, expected in mid-November. The budget is anticipated to outline key fiscal strategies and government priorities for the coming year.

Two newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislators Bernard Bediako Baidoo, MP-elect for Akwatia, and Professor Alidu Seidu, MP-elect for Tamale Central will also be sworn into office during today’s proceedings.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is further expected to vet and deliberate on the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie for the position of Chief Justice.

In line with government’s renewed commitment to the fight against illegal mining, a legislative instrument (L.I.) is expected to be laid before Parliament to revoke L.I. 2462, which currently empowers the President to authorize mining in forest reserves.

Throughout this meeting, lawmakers will consider various national matters, including the passage of bills, policy statements, and motions from different ministries, departments, and agencies.
