Ghana’s former Majority Leader and current Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, is urging Parliament’s leadership to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Speaker of the House to resolve the current impasse disrupting parliamentary operations.
With the December 7 general elections fast approaching, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stressed the importance of parliamentary unity and functionality to avoid any negative impact on the upcoming elections.
The impasse was triggered by Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant on October 17, which led to the indefinite adjournment of the House.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized that communication and collaboration are essential in addressing the tensions and resolving the issues facing the House.
He warned that a continued deadlock in Parliament could affect the legal and procedural frameworks critical for a smooth election cycle.
Moreover, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu highlighted that the Electoral Commission is yet to bring a Constitutional Instrument (CI) before Parliament, which would outline the legal framework for conducting the December 7 elections.
