By: Emmanuel Amoah

The Ghana Police Service is set to begin an investigation into the death of Patrick Mensah, a final-year BSc Agriculture student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The tragic incident occurred just three days after Patrick completed his four-year academic program.

According to his family, Patrick and his friends visited an illegal mining site in Manso, located in the Ashanti region, the day after he returned home from school.

The tragedy unfolded when one of Patrick’s friends accidentally fell into a deep mining pit. Without hesitation, Patrick attempted to save his friend but lost his balance and fell into the pit as well.

Rescue efforts were unsuccessful due to the hazardous conditions of the pit, and Patrick’s body was later recovered, leaving his loved ones devastated.

Patrick had completed his final exams on Friday, August 23, 2024, and was awaiting the defense of his project work. He had returned home to visit his parents in Manso, where the unfortunate incident took place.
