President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, joined leaders and dignitaries from across Africa and beyond in Monrovia on Friday, July 26, 2025, to participate in the celebration of Liberia’s 178th Independence Anniversary.
The historic occasion, held under the theme “Consolidating Unity and Progress for National Development”, brought together heads of state, diplomats, and distinguished guests to mark nearly two centuries of Liberia’s sovereignty the oldest republic on the African continent.
President Mahama, who shares strong diplomatic ties with Liberia, was warmly welcomed by the government of President Joseph Boakai and the Liberian people. His presence at the celebration underscored Ghana’s longstanding relationship with Liberia, rooted in shared values of democracy, peacebuilding, and regional solidarity.
Speaking briefly during interactions with the media, President Mahama commended Liberia for its resilience and democratic progress. He encouraged continued commitment to peace, national unity, and inclusive development.
“As Liberia marks 178 years of independence, we salute her people for their courage, strength, and optimism. Ghana remains a friend and partner in your journey toward prosperity and sustained peace,” President Mahama noted.
The celebration featured a colorful military parade, cultural displays, and a national address by President Boakai, who called on Liberians to stay united and focused on rebuilding the nation’s economy and institutions.
President Mahama, a respected African leader, continues to play an active role in promoting democracy, peace, and integration across the continent. His attendance at Liberia’s Independence Day reaffirms Ghana’s enduring support for Liberia and the broader cause of African unity and development.
