President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, calling for renewed global efforts to accelerate progress during his address at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing.
Speaking at the high-level conference hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Women, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s achievements and vision for inclusive leadership. He stated:
“Under my leadership and in my capacity as the African Union Champion for Gender and Women’s Empowerment, the Government of Ghana has continued to take decisive steps to mainstream gender across our national development policies. We’ve achieved historic milestones, including the election of Ghana’s first female Vice President and the unprecedented appointment of women to leadership positions in government, the judiciary, the security services, and key national institutions.”

The President emphasized that these actions were not mere token gestures but a clear reflection of Ghana’s belief in women’s equal role in shaping the nation’s future.
“These are not just symbolic gestures. They are deliberate affirmation that women deserve a seat at the table of the highest levels of decision-making. And I am confident that in the very near future, our women will break the ground. There will be a woman President of the Republic of Ghana,” he affirmed, drawing applause from delegates.
The conference, which marks the 30th anniversary of the landmark Beijing Declaration and the Fourth World Conference on Women, brought together world leaders to renew commitments toward gender equality and the empowerment of women globally.
President Mahama, who is in Beijing with First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, is also engaging Chinese authorities on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting investment opportunities between Ghana and China.
His remarks in Beijing further solidify Ghana’s reputation as a regional leader in gender inclusivity and demonstrate the country’s continued dedication to building a society where women play equal and transformative roles at every level of national development.
