Professor Stephen Adei, a renowned economist and former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has dismissed speculation that President-elect John Dramani Mahama might attempt to extend his tenure by altering the constitution. This speculation arose from the fact that Mahama’s two terms as president were not consecutive, leading some to suggest that he might try to seek another term.
Adei, who has been vocal on national issues, emphasized that such a move would be unconstitutional and undermine Ghana’s democratic principles. His stance on this matter reflects his commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the country’s democratic institutions are respected.
As a respected economist and academic, Adei has been a strong advocate for good governance and democratic principles. He has previously served as the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and has been a vocal critic of policies that he believes are detrimental to the country’s development.
In a recent interview, Adei also weighed in on the current power crisis in Ghana, stating that while it is not as severe as the previous crisis under Mahama’s tenure, it still requires immediate attention from the government. His comments reflect his concern for the country’s development and his commitment to holding leaders accountable for their actions.
