The Minister of Labor of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, has held a bilateral meeting with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to discuss new pathways for strengthening cooperation between the two countries, with a special focus on labor-related partnerships.
The high-level engagement, which took place in Doha, brought renewed attention to the longstanding ties between Ghana and Qatar, particularly in areas of labor mobility, workers’ welfare, skills development, and employment opportunities. Both ministers emphasized the importance of structured collaboration to advance mutual economic interests and safeguard the rights and well-being of Ghanaian workers in Qatar.
During the meeting, the two officials explored frameworks for enhancing recruitment processes, improving labor standards, and promoting ethical employment practices. They also discussed opportunities for capacity building and knowledge exchange to support Ghana’s labor market reforms and Qatar’s ongoing modernization efforts.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to fostering productive international partnerships that create decent and dignified work for its citizens abroad. He expressed optimism that the renewed dialogue will open more avenues for skilled and semi-skilled Ghanaian professionals to access opportunities in Qatar’s growing economy.

For his part, Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri commended Ghana for its proactive engagement and highlighted Qatar’s continued efforts to strengthen labor protections, enhance regulatory frameworks, and deepen cooperation with partner nations.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing readiness to advance discussions towards a more comprehensive labor cooperation agreement aimed at benefiting both countries and their populations.
The latest engagement marks another step forward in the evolving diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and Qatar.
