Right to Play, a non-governmental organization, has commissioned and handed over a refurbished resource centre to St. Teresa’s College of Education (TERESCO) in Hohoe.
The centre aims to improve teaching and learning by providing tutors and student teachers with training on playful teaching approaches.
According to Maxwell Denakpor, Right to Play Project Officer for the Volta Region, the centre will serve as a hub for training and professional development. The project is part of a partnership initiative with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to develop a play-based learning manual.
The manual, which will be made available to all college tutors, provides a comprehensive guide for pre-service teachers on implementing play-based learning in classrooms.
Denakpor emphasized that the centre will open doors to a future of playful learning that is engaging, inclusive, and transformative.
Dr. Maxwell Seyram Kumah, Vice Principal of St. Teresa’s College of Education, expressed gratitude for the centre, stating that it will help train student teachers to become 21st-century educators who use creative approaches to learning.
The centre will also be made available to partner schools in the Hohoe Municipality.
Hohoe Municipal Education Director, Victor Kwaku Kovey, thanked Right to Play for the centre, which is the first of its kind in the region under public education.
He appealed for support to maintain the facility and requested a generator to ensure the centre’s continuous use.
