Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku, has endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) most promising prospect for the 2028 presidential election, citing his leadership credentials and capacity to unify the party.
In a recent statement, Mr. Awuku commended Dr. Bawumia’s handling of national challenges during his tenure as Vice President, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and amid global economic disruptions.
“I believe Dr. Bawumia presents us with a strong opportunity to return to power in 2028,” Awuku noted. “Despite the difficulties encountered by our government in the last four years — from post-COVID economic instability to broader global shocks — Dr. Bawumia demonstrated commendable leadership.”
He further praised Dr. Bawumia’s resilience, character, and integrity, pointing to these attributes as key assets that the NPP can rely on in its future political strategy.
“Dr. Bawumia stood in the gap for the party. His personal achievements, the strength of his character, and the integrity he embodies are qualities that continue to inspire confidence,” Awuku added.
Mr. Awuku’s remarks are seen as part of a broader effort within the NPP to rally early support behind a credible and unifying figure as the party looks ahead to rebuilding its political fortunes beyond 2024.
His endorsement adds to a growing chorus of voices within the party expressing confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership potential.
