Captain Abel Nartey, a senior military officer, has been discharged by the Accra Circuit Court due to insufficient evidence in a GH¢136,000 recruitment scam case. As a result, any restrictions or bans previously imposed on him by the Ghana Armed Forces or other institutions have been lifted.
Initially, Captain Nartey faced charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretenses alongside Clement Ayomah. However, upon concluding their investigation, the prosecution determined there was no evidence linking Captain Nartey to the fraudulent activities. It was revealed that Ayomah, who was under Captain Nartey’s supervision, had used the officer’s name to solicit money from victims.
The court accepted the prosecution’s request to withdraw the original charges and submit a revised charge sheet that excluded Captain Nartey. Presiding Judge Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah officially discharged Captain Nartey and revoked all related restrictions and bans.
Clement Ayomah remains the primary accused in the case. He is alleged to have collected GH¢136,000 from 22 individuals under the false pretense of enlisting them into the Ghana Security Services. Ayomah’s trial continues, with the next hearing scheduled for August 8, 2024.
