Ghanaian dancehall artist, Shatta Wale has called on the Ghanaian youth to support the Mahama – led administration even as his (Mahama ) government is in power.
Making his address during his performance at the 2025 president cup between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak on July 6, the award winning artist urged the youth to rally behind President John Dramani Mahama from now till the next election [December 7, 2028]. ” If you are a youth and you want to see money in your pocket then support this government because it has come to put money in your pocket” he affirmed the vibrant youth crowded at the Accra Sports Stadium to witness the match.
Shatta Wale again in a facebook post reacting to a heartfelt moment of the president singing along his [Shatta Wale] Mahama Paper song wrote; “The man who rewards your hard work with a smile and can also terminate your contract if you don’t deliver. Good evening Mr President.
We’re grateful for your commitment to empowering the youth and making us part of
your vision.
The president cup was won by Asante Kotoko after a 2-1 scoreline against Hearts of Oak last Sunday.
After his endorsement which sparked debates over various media platforms, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation announced that the government did not pay a dime to Shatta Wale for his performance. It revealed in a release that the artist offered to do a free show and even catered for other related expenses that came along with his performance.
“True to his promise to deliver an experience that extended beyond football, the Minister engaged Shatta Wale, who not only agreed to perform pro bono but personally covered all costs related to his performance” the statement read.
Shatta Wales act validates his call for the support of Mahama’s government till the next general election.
