Hangovers are the worst. But did you know that there are ways to reduce their severity or avoid them altogether? Here are six facts to help you enjoy your drinks without the dreaded morning after.

  1. Red Wine Can Give You a Headache:
    Red wine can give some people headaches. This is because of a substance called quercetin, which is found in the skin of red grapes. If you’re one of those people who always gets a headache after drinking red wine, now you know why?
  2. What You Think Can Affect How You Feel:
    If you think you’ve had a lot to drink, you might feel drunker than you really are. This is called the expectation effect. It’s like when you’re at a party and everyone around you is drinking and having fun. You might start to feel like you’re drunk too, even if you’ve only had a few sips.
  3. Mixing Drinks Won’t Make a Difference:
    Some people think that mixing different types of drinks will make your hangover worse. But it’s not the type of drink that matters, it’s how much you drink. So, whether you’re drinking beer, wine, or cocktails, just remember to pace yourself and don’t overdo it.
  4. Dark Drinks Can Make Hangovers Worse:
    Drinks like whiskey and red wine have more substances that can make your hangover worse. These substances are called congeners. They’re like little helpers that make your hangover symptoms worse. So, if you want to avoid a hangover, it’s best to stick to lighter-colored drinks like vodka or gin.
  5. There’s No Magic Cure for Hangovers:
    Some people think that certain foods or drinks can cure a hangover. But there’s no scientific evidence to support this. Sorry,No matter how many greasy burgers or bloody marys you consume, they won’t make your hangover go away. The only thing that really works is time and hydration.
  6. Your Friends Can Influence Your Drinking:
    If your friends are drinking a lot, you might feel pressure to drink more too. Be mindful of your surroundings and pace yourself to avoid drinking too much. It’s okay to say no to a drink or to take a break and grab some water. Your body (and your head) will thank you.

The best way to avoid a hangover is to drink less alcohol. If you do plan on drinking, try to avoid dark drinks, pace yourself, and be mindful of social pressure. Remember, moderation is key.
