The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has commenced the disbursement of second-semester loans to tertiary students nationwide, marking a significant improvement in its operational efficiency and commitment to timely student support.

As of Tuesday, July 1, a total of 19,703 students have received their loan payments, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the SLTF, Ms. Saajida Shiraz.

Priority was given to students in private tertiary institutions, whose academic calendars are more advanced than those of their counterparts in public universities.

This development precedes the official launch of the SLTF’s new financing initiative, ‘No-Fees-Stress’, scheduled for Friday, July 4. The initiative is expected to introduce a more student-friendly approach to tertiary education financing in Ghana.

Speaking on the latest disbursement, Ms. Shiraz noted that the Trust Fund has undergone significant reforms aimed at addressing delays and inefficiencies in loan processing and disbursement.

“The days when the Trust Fund approved students for loans it couldn’t disburse are over,” she stated. “The revamped SLTF is now operating with renewed focus and diligence to deliver timely financial assistance to students across the country.”

The early release of funds signals a strategic shift in the SLTF’s operations, aligned with broader government efforts to promote equitable access to higher education and ensure academic continuity. It also reflects the Fund’s renewed mandate to support students with greater transparency, accountability, and responsiveness.

The SLTF’s current trajectory positions it as a more reliable partner in Ghana’s tertiary education sector, particularly at a time when financial constraints continue to pose challenges to student enrollment and retention.
