A special voting exercise is currently underway in 14 out of 16 regions in Ghana, with hundreds of security personnel, media personnel, emergency service staff, and Electoral Commission officials participating.
The exercise started at 7:00 am, will run until 5:00 pm across the country.
In the Volta Region, 8,471 eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots, while in the Adentan constituency in the Greater Accra Region, 1,202 registered voters are expected to vote.
Voting has commenced smoothly in most centers, with initial queues reported in some areas.
However, there have been some issues reported, including missing names on the voter list.
In the Korle Klottey Constituency, two persons, a journalist and a security officer, were turned away because their names were not on the voter list.
In the Upper West Region, the voting process has been calm and peaceful, with over 2,800 people expected to cast their ballots.
Similarly, in the Sunyani East Constituency, 1,137 voters are expected to cast their votes at two polling centers.
The special voting exercise is taking place in 328 centers nationwide, with 131,478 eligible voters representing 0.007% of the total voter population of 18.7 million.
The Electoral Commission has assured that the exercise will be conducted smoothly and peacefully.
It’s worth noting that the Eastern and Western regions will have their special voting on Thursday, December 5, due to a ballot paper mishap.
The Electoral Commission has ordered a recall and reprinting of ballot papers for the two regions.
