TEWU Gives May 31 Deadline, to Conclude Negotiations On Conditions of Service.

Prior to four different letters served the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) on different occasions, the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU – TUC) have given the FWSC up until Sunday May 31, 2025 to conclude negotiations on their conditions of service.

In an official letter addressed to the chief executive officer of the FWSC, the union lamented over the delays in concluding negotiations on the conditions of service. The letter recorded that letters regarding the conclusion on negotiations of the conditions of service was first served to the FWSC on August 11, 2023, Aside this, series of letters have being served the commision which has been met with constant neglect.

The letter noted that this delay has resulted in a pay gap between their members and other members of different teaching unions.
“Due to delays in concluding, signing and implementing Conditions of Service for members in the
Ghana Education Service, Staff in the Teaching Profession whose Conditions of Service was negotiated by the Teachers Unions, had their Professional Development Allowance increased from GHC 1,200.00 to GHC 2,400.00 to the detriment of the Non-Teaching Staff because their
Conditions of Service is yet to be signed” it lamented.

TEWU have registered that it can not continue to calm members of the union after several months of neglect from the FWSC. It added that union members from the Ghana Education Service (GES), public and technical universities, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, and the Ghana Library Authority are agitated about the prolonged negotiations.

The Union has given the FWSC up until May 31 to to conclude on the agreement that has been tabled or else further actions would be taken against the commission.

“We are compelled to give the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission up to 31 May, 2025 to invite us to the negotiation table to conclude Conditions of Service for all our members, otherwise we shall advise ourselves after 31 May, 2025.” it ended.
