Three Confirmed Dead After Massive Downpour In Adenta.

Three persons have been confirmed dead after a massive downpour yesterday Sunday, May 18, 2025 around Adenta and its environs.

During an interaction with ChannelOne TV on Monday, May 19, Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Ella Esiman Nongo blamed the confirmed the number of deaths recorded as a result of the floods during the rainfall.

Yesterday’s downpour which lasted for close to three hours resulted into flooding in most parts of the country destroying a vast number of properties with three persons confirmed dead in the Adenta Municipality.

Addressing the fatalities recorded, Madam Ella Esiman Nongo revealed that a 4- year- old girl was recorded dead in Nanakrom and a gentleman around new Legon all in the Adenta municipality. “In Lakeside, we lost two people, including a four-year-old girl at Nanakrom, and a gentleman around New Legon” she said.

The MCE further blamed the construction on waterways as a major cause for the floods in the area. “Because people are building on waterways, there is no exit route for the water when it rains. That’s one of the main challenges we’re facing” she lamented.

She is calling for strict enforcement of the rules and regulations surrounding building permits in order to curb Ghana’s flooding issues. “if we don’t tackle the indiscipline in our building practices and enforce the rules, these tragedies will keep recurring” she added.

In a wake of this the Ghana Meteorological Agency have cautioned Ghanaians to expect more rainfall in the coming days.

Speaking to Joynews, Deputy Director of Forecasting at GMeT, Joseph Tetteh Portuphy made the call admist pleas to Ghanaian to prepare themselves against the peak of the rainy reason in June.

“Currently, we are getting into the peak of our rainy season, so people should be careful, especially when we get into June. June is the peak, and once we get these heavy rains, it means the land and every place will be saturated. And when they get saturated, any slight rain can cause flooding” he ended on his remark.

Some affected areas during yesterday’s massive downpour are Adenta, Patang, Nsawam, Lakeside, Kasoa, Spintex and many others.
