The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.
According to police reports, intelligence gathered on October 11, 2025, revealed a conspiracy to eliminate the traditional ruler ahead of his first Royal Durbar, slated for October 17, 2025, in Akyem Kwabeng. Acting on the information, officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) launched a swift and covert operation to foil the plot.
During the operation on October 12, 2025, 47-year-old Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the assassination of both Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II and a woman believed to be the newly installed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.
Investigations further revealed that Butuakwa Seth, aged 48, was instructed by Emelia to assist the purported assassins by identifying the Chief and Queen Mother’s residences. Seth reportedly led the undercover team to the locations and even provided a photograph of the Chief to aid in the planned attack.
Police sources disclosed that the suspects also promised an additional GH₵50,000 payment upon successful completion of the operation.
Both Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth are currently in police custody, assisting with further investigations as authorities work to uncover the full scope of the plot and any possible accomplices.
The swift intervention of the police is being hailed by residents and local leaders as a critical step in ensuring the safety and stability of the Akyem Kwabeng Traditional Area ahead of the highly anticipated Royal Durbar.
