The United States Embassy in Ghana has announced continued efforts to improve the visa application experience for Ghanaians, emphasizing transparency, efficiency, and legal compliance as top priorities.
Speaking at the Embassy’s Consular Media Day held in Accra, U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik highlighted recent upgrades to the visa process aimed at making it more accessible and applicant-friendly. The event was organized to clarify visa policies, correct public misconceptions, and improve engagement with prospective travelers.
“In 2024, we received 61,000 visa applications and issued 25,000 to Ghanaians for work, study, and tourism,” Fertik stated. “Our focus is on supporting legitimate travel while ensuring applicants clearly understand the process.”
Fertik underscored the Embassy’s goal to welcome more Ghanaian visitors who wish to study, invest, or engage in business in the U.S.
He noted that improvements in service delivery are designed to make the process less stressful and more transparent for applicants.
“We want to ensure Ghanaians are well-informed when applying for visas. Understanding the requirements is crucial to a successful application,” he added.
While celebrating legal and successful visa applicants, the Embassy also reiterated its firm stance against immigration fraud and illegal entry into the United States.
“The U.S. maintains zero tolerance for illegal immigration,” Fertik said. “Applicants who attempt to bypass the system or submit fraudulent documents risk visa refusal, revocation, or permanent bans.”
He concluded by emphasizing the dual mission of the U.S. Department of State: promoting secure, legal travel and safeguarding U.S. borders.
