Renowned Ghanaian playwright and motivational speaker, Uncle Ebo Whyte, has offered candid advice to young people on the subject of marriage, urging them not to succumb to societal expectations.
In a recent Instagram video, Uncle Ebo who has been married for 42 years challenged conventional beliefs about marriage. He emphasized that the institution has evolved over time and that marriage is not a mandatory path for everyone.
“The idea that everyone must marry is outdated,” he said. “The purpose of marriage has changed, and not everyone needs to go down that road.”
Quoting Apostle Paul, he remarked, “He who marries does well. He who does not marry does even better,” underscoring that fulfillment in life is not solely dependent on marital status.
Uncle Ebo further explained that modern views on family planning and companionship reflect a shift in priorities. He highlighted that successful marriages demand more than just love they require hard work, patience, humility, and mutual respect.
“Marriage is not for everyone,” he cautioned. “It should only be pursued if one genuinely desires to build a life with another person, not because of external pressure.”
He concluded by reaffirming that a person’s value is not defined by their relationship status, noting that many people lead happy, purpose driven lives without ever getting married.
His message is a timely reminder to young people to make life choices based on personal conviction rather than societal expectations.
