Government strengthens Feed Ghana Programme to boost food security and reduce post-harvest losses.
The Vice President of the Republic, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has announced that government will soon deploy 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science across the country to assist farmers and help bridge the gap between research and practice.

She made this known at the grand durbar of the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival, held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in the Volta Region. The festival, themed “Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation,” celebrated unity, truth, and national progress.

According to the Vice President, this initiative forms part of the government’s broader Feed Ghana Programme, which is being rolled out this year under the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The programme includes tangible support and significant budgetary allocations to boost food production and modernize agriculture.

She further mentioned that complementary projects such as the Vegetable Development Project and the popular “Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti” poultry initiative have been prioritized to strengthen the agricultural value chain and enhance food self-sufficiency.

“These 5,000 young graduates will work side by side with farmers across the country, including the Volta Region, providing modern extension services, introducing new farming techniques, and ensuring that research outcomes are translated into practical agricultural solutions,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated.

The Vice President emphasized government’s commitment to reducing post-harvest losses and promoting sustainable farming practices to improve productivity and incomes for Ghanaian farmers.

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, who hosted the festival, called on national leaders particularly chiefs and politicians to demonstrate genuine commitment to Ghana’s development. He urged unity, integrity, and patriotism as key ingredients for national progress.

The 2025 Asogli Yam Festival, also known as Asogli Te Za, ran from July 14 to October 5, 2025, and featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional music, and dance. The event attracted people from across the country and beyond, serving as a major platform to promote unity, peace, and cultural heritage while also driving tourism and investment in the Volta Region.

Beyond its cultural significance, the festival also provided opportunities for social cohesion and economic development, reaffirming the Asogli people’s commitment to national unity and progress.
