Ho, July 17, 2024 — The Volta Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has extended its voter education initiative to the Customs, Excise, and Preventive Service (CEPS) of the Ghana Revenue Authority in Ho. This effort is part of the NCCE’s Constitution Week celebration, themed “Together We Can Build Ghana: So, Get Involved.”
Mr. Francis Dusey, Deputy Volta Director of the NCCE, addressed the CEPS personnel, emphasizing the importance of patriotism and professionalism in their duties to uphold the nation’s integrity. “Nation-building is the responsibility of every citizen, and the development of any nation rests on its people,” he stated.
Mr. Dusey highlighted the need for citizens to respect the law and fulfill their civic duties, particularly as Ghana continues to enjoy stable democratic governance. He urged political parties to focus their campaigns on ideas and called on voters to ensure that the upcoming elections are peaceful and free from hostility, assault, and violence.
He identified several threats to a peaceful election, including terrorist activities, vote-buying, corruption perceptions, economic hardships, and the misuse of social media for spreading fake news, misinformation, and disinformation.
“The importance of citizens coming together to resolve issues and work diligently to address the challenges facing the country cannot be overstated,” Mr. Dusey concluded.
The voter education initiative by the NCCE aims to foster a well-informed electorate and promote a peaceful electoral process.
