The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has closed the examination hall of the Adventist Day Senior High School in Kumasi following reports of widespread malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The drastic action was taken on Thursday, September 4, 2025, after WAEC officials, accompanied by the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, stormed the school to investigate reports of cheating.

As a result, 936 candidates were relocated to WAEC’s regional office, where they wrote the English Language paper under tighter security and stricter supervision.

Speaking on the development, Kumasi Metro Director of Education, Mr. David Oppong, described the situation as “very unfortunate” and stressed the need for vigilance by invigilators and supervisors. He cautioned that failure to address examination malpractices would erode the credibility of Ghana’s education system.

“This is a wake-up call. If we continue to tolerate such acts, we risk weakening the very foundation of our education,” he said.

The move highlights WAEC’s determination to safeguard the integrity of the WASSCE, which this year is being undertaken by more than 15,000 candidates across 14 public senior high schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Authorities have assured that measures are being reinforced to ensure a fair and transparent examination process for all candidates.
