The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has postponed its planned maintenance exercise, known as pigging, to February 3 to March 2, this year.
This decision comes as a relief to Ghanaians, as the original schedule would have led to power supply challenges due to insufficient gas for energy producers.
During the one-month maintenance period, WAPCo will halt gas flow to Ghana. The company described the cleaning exercise as critical, aligning with industry best practices.
The new government had assured the public that steps would be taken to postpone the pigging exercise, and WAPCo’s decision has averted the potential power crisis.
Notably, the postponement has saved the government from spending $90 million on fuel for power plants. The maintenance exercise was originally scheduled for January, but the delay will prevent disruptions to Ghana’s power supply.
